Have a dual blood supply – from the ovarian artery and adnexal branch from the uterine artery
“Color Doppler flow studies have shown differences in arterial flow between the active (dominant) and inactive (nondominant) ovaries. A steady high-resistance pattern of ovarian arterial flow has been demonstrated in the nondominant ovary (8,9). In comparison, the dominant ovary develops a low-resistance arterial pattern with its nadir in the early luteal phase, implying an increase in blood flow to that ovary that is greatest just after ovulation, during the time of corpus luteum formation (Fig 2) (8,9). “

| Transvaginal ultrasound is very useful for the evaluation of the female pelvis. One of the considerations in acute pelvic pain is ovarian torsion, for which color flow doppler is essential for this evaluation. The above examination shows normal color flow to the ovary.
